Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck had to think of more than just themselves when getting married. They each have children from different relationships. And if getting married wasn't already stressful, add in the fact they were blending families, with the scrutiny from the public, that couldn't have made things easy.
But, once the pair were married on July 17, 2022, in The Little White Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada, their separate families became one. But, when they integrated their families, did everyone get along?
Ben Affleck was married to Jennifer Garner from 2005 to 2018. They share three children; Violet, age 17; Seraphina, age 14; and Samuel, age 10.
Jennifer Lopez shares two children with her ex-husband Marc Anthony, whom she married from 2004 to 2014. Their children are twins Emme and Maximilian, age 14.
With so many children so close in age, there's bound to be growing pains as this family learns from one another.
Do Jenifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's Children Get Along?
Marrying two families is never easy, but it seems like Emme and Seraphina are enjoying their new situation. The two step-siblings have been seen out and about together a few times.
The two are about the same age and seem to have much in common, including their style. The couple of times they've been spotted, both have been seen in relatively similar things. They both have short hair and wear oversize shirts and trousers.
As if their being in public doesn't solidify their friendship, they've been seen holding hands while laughing and listening to music together. It seems these two are adjusting to their new family life quite well.
What Jlo and Ben Affleck Say About Blending Their Families
While speaking to Today about her new movie Shotgun Wedding with co-star Josh Duhamel, Jennifer Lopez, detailed her new family life.
The songstress had nothing but positive things to say while recounting the past year of her life, saying, "And it's just been a phenomenal year," Jennifer continued. "Like, my best year, I think, since my kids were born."
Lopez continued when speaking about her and Affleck's family, saying, "We moved in together. The kids moved in together. It's been, like, a really kind of emotional transition, but at the same time, all your dreams coming true."
While speaking with Vogue Magazine, Lopez said, "What I hope to cultivate with our family is that his kids have a new ally in me, and my kids have a new ally in him, someone who really loves and cares about them but can have a different perspective and help me see things that I can't see with my kids because I'm so emotionally tied up."
The families seem to be getting along, the children even wanting to hang out without their parents, "one of my kids said, 'I want to go to the flea market.' I was like, 'Oh, you want me and Ben to come?' They said, 'You know, it's such a thing when you go, Mom.'"
Lopez recalls being hurt by her kids not wanting to hang out with her and Ben, but she understands. The star says, "I get it. They want time with their friends when they aren't being watched and followed and photographed. It's a thing. Nobody's complaining, but it's a thing."
But, she reiterates, "The transition is a process that needs to be handled with so much care," she says. "They have so many feelings. They're teens. But it's going really well so far."
How Are JLo And Ben Co-Parenting With Their Exes Jennifer Garner and Marc Anthony?
Lopez also spoke to Vogue Magazine about her co-parenting with Jennifer Garner, with whom Affleck shares three children, and Marc Anthony, her ex-husband.
Integrating households can be pretty challenging; add in five teenagers, and it must not be easy. But Lopez says they are learning about parenting from one another. And, while speaking about Garner, she says she is "an amazing co-parent, and they [Affleck and Garner] work really well together."
A source close to Lopez and Affleck told Entertainment Tonight, "Marc Anthony and Jen Garner have been supportive. There's been no bad blood or hard feelings as of late."
The source continued, "their main goal is to always keep their children happy, and they all feel aligned on that. The kids get along well, and Ben's kids love Jen, and Jen's kids adore Ben."
JLo and Affleck were first engaged in 2002, but the couple called it quits and went their separate ways. However, 20 years later, the pair reconnected.
Lopez had nothing but the best to say when it comes to her husband, "People in my life know that he was a very, very special person in my life," she said in Vogue. "When we reconnected, those feelings for me were still very real. All we've ever wanted was to kind of come to a place of peace in our lives where we really felt that type of love that you feel when you're very young and wonder if you can have that again."
