Taylor Swift recently took a break from her Eras tour to attend Jack Antonoff and Margaret Qualley’s wedding, where she gave a passionate toast honoring the newlyweds.
On Saturday, Taylor was in attendance amongst a variety of famous faces when the couple said ‘I Do’ in Long Island, New Jersey. Speaking to Page Six, sources reveal that Taylor gave a 15-minute speech in which she “roasted” Jack and Margaret, albeit lovingly.
“We hear that Swift’s speech included a crack about how she always thanks Antonoff, her frequent musical collaborator, in her awards show acceptance speeches — and that he never mentions her in any of his,” the outlet reported.
The couple were then serenaded by Lana Del Ray, who sang her song “Margaret,” which was written for Qualley and features Antonoff’s band Bleachers.
Taylor later joined the wedding party and guests (including her long-time friend Cara Delevingne) for an afterparty at Bird & Betty’s, where the newlyweds cut the cake and danced the rest of the night away with guests.
Taylor’s Ex Matty Healy Nearly Appeared At The Wedding
There was a good chance that Matty Healy could’ve shown up to the wedding, which would’ve been an awkward encounter for Taylor, who broke up with him in June after she received backlash over their romance following Matty’s history of controversial behavior.
“Taylor and Matty broke up. They are both extremely busy and realized they're not really compatible with each other," a source told Entertainment Tonight at the time.
"Taylor's friends want what's best for her and aren't shocked that their relationship fizzled out since she recently got out of a long-term relationship,” they continued.
Jack was the one who reportedly introduced Taylor to Matty. Jack works with a lot of people in the industry as a music executive, which is how he connected the two, since he often works with Matty’s band The 1975. While it appears Matty didn’t get an invite to the New Jersey wedding (or he wasn’t able to make it), his bandmate, The 1975 drummer George Daniel, was seen at the reception.
Matty Healy Is Taylor Swift’s Most Controversial Ex
Taylor may have only meant for Matty to be a rebound, as their romance came mere weeks after she broke up with her boyfriend of six years, actor Joe Alwyn. But fans weren’t impressed, given Matty’s history of problematic behavior.
He's gotten in trouble for making comments about a variety of celebrities, including, most recently, Ice Spice, who Taylor later brought out during an Eras performance to show solidarity. Matty has also received backlash for comments around Black Lives Matter and antisemitism.
Fans even uncovered old footage in which Matty made fun of a potential relationship with Taylor, calling it “emasculating.”
“It’s just interesting to me how interested the world is about Taylor Swift,” he said in 2016 when denying dating rumors. “The reason I mention that is because if I had [properly] gone out with Taylor Swift, I would’ve been, ‘F---ng hell, I am not being Taylor Swift’s boyfriend. You know, “F--k. That.’ That’s also a man thing, a de-masculinating, emasculating thing.”
Needless to say, Taylor Swift fan are happy this is once romance she’s putting behind her.
